Macon Rescue Mission, which has served the Middle Georgia area for the past 62 years, has changed its name to Rescue Mission of Middle Georgia.

“Our new name better reflects the larger community we are serving,” Executive Director Erin Reimers said in a newsletter.

In 2013, 45 percent of the mission’s residents came from areas outside of Bibb County, according to the newsletter. The area includes Bleckley, Crawford, Dodge, Houston, Jones, Laurens, Monroe, Peach, Twiggs and Upson counties.

Also, 35 percent of the mission’s non-cash donations come from outside Bibb County. Anyone in Middle Georgia with items to donate should call 743-5445 for pickup.
