Bibb pre-K registration begins Saturday

Staff reportJanuary 30, 2014

Bibb County parents can get a jump on registering their children for prekindergarten this Saturday.

The Bibb County school system is having a Prekindergarten Registration Kickoff for the 2014-2015 school year from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Welcome Center, located at 2003 Riverside Drive.

Parents can register their child for the system’s pre-K program, and educational activities will also be available for families, according to a release from the system.

Beginning next week, registration will continue at the Welcome Center from 8 a.m.-4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Registration will run through Feb. 28, except for Feb. 17, when the district will be closed for Presidents Day.

Parents will need to bring the following documents with them to register:

• Proof of residence (current telephone, gas, water, electric or cable bill);

• Child’s certified birth certificate, and;

• Child’s Social Security card.

There are 748 pre-K slots available to children who are 4 years old on or before Sept. 1, 2014. Students may attend pre-K at their zoned school or at Northwoods Academy on Pierce Avenue.

Selection is based on a random computer lottery. There is no cost to participate. If a child is selected by lottery, parents will be notified by mail by June 15.

If a child’s name is not selected, his or her name will automatically be put on a waiting list. Parents will also be notified of this information by June 15.

Parents must attend a scheduled orientation before the 2014-2015 school year. If they don’t, the child’s slot will be given to the next student on the waiting list.
