A 50-year-old man was fatally injured Tuesday morning in an accident with a bus.

Tony Bateman was riding a bicycle eastbound toward Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard when he collided with a Macon Transit Authority bus just before 7 a.m., according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

Stanley Jones, 52, was driving the bus southbound on MLK when Bateman rode out in front of him near Concord Street, which is not too far from the split with Houston Avenue, the release said.

Two passengers were on the bus, but no one else was hurt.

Bateman was taken to The Medical Center of Central Georgia, where he was pronounced dead at 10:56 a.m., said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

No charges were filed.
