A member of Macon’s Matt Pippin Band was killed early Sunday morning in a Henry County traffic crash.

A Chevrolet Trailblazer traveling west of Ga. 81 East in McDonough crossed into the path of an eastbound Honda Accord at about 3:30 a.m., causing a head-on collision, according to the Henry County police.

Michael “Jud” Kingsley, 36, the band’s bass player, died at the scene. Earl Smith, 36, of McDonough, was charged with vehicular homicide, DUI and failure to maintain lane. Smith was treated for minor injuries, according to a police news release.

Kingsley, who lived in Covington, was traveling after a show in Newnan, according to the band’s Facebook page.
