Martin Luther King Jr. Day activities


Unity Breakfast

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity will host the Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast at 9 a.m. at the New Beginning Center at First Baptist Church, 210 Garmon St., Warner Robins. There will be a presentation on the Affordable Care Act, and the Phi Beta Sigma fraternity will be recognized in honor of its centennial anniversary. Admission is $5. Labor Awards

The Martin Luther King Jr. Labor Awards, sponsored by the local Labor Council, will be held at 6 p.m. at the Rosewood Ballroom.


Birthday March

There will be a Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday March starting at Agape Outreach Ministries, 295 N. Davis Drive, Warner Robins, at 8 a.m. It will continue down South Davis Drive and stop at Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard for a speech. Then, the march will continue to Warner Robins CME Church, 200 Othal H. Lakey Circle, where breakfast will be served and the Rev. Clyde Turner will speak. Macon Breakfast

The annual Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. at St. Peter Claver Church, in the gym.

Macon March

A Martin Luther King Jr. March in Macon will start from four sections of the city -- the Booker T. Washington Center, the Frank Johnson Center, Memorial Gym and the Rosa Jackson Center, beginning at 11 a.m. and converging at the Macon-Bibb Government Center, formerly City Hall.

Mercer Day of Service

Mercer University’s Center for Leadership and Volunteerism will hold its second annual MLK Day of Service. Students will participate in six different service projects across Macon. Students will also participate in the annual march to downtown Macon from 11 a.m.-1 p.m.

Educating & Uniting the Dream

A Martin Luther King Jr. program will be held from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Rosa Parks Square. There will be speakers, arts and entertainment and food.

Georgia CollegeActivities

Georgia College is partnering with several community groups to celebrate King’s life Monday while working to educate and empower the campus and community. Events include:

• 9 a.m. to noon: Communities in Schools service project at Baldwin County schools.

• Noon: Commemorative march that begins at Huley Park and ends at Flagg Chapel Baptist Church.

• 1 p.m.: MLK Tribute Service in the Arts & Sciences Auditorium at Georgia College.

• 3 p.m.: Community cookout at Huley Park. Vendors are welcome. Food will be served and a panel will discuss “Conversations to Action.”
