The Southeast Tourism Society considers Perrys annual Dogwood Festival among the top events in the region.
The group named the festival a top 20 event, according to a release from the Perry Area Chamber of Commerce. By getting the designation, the festival will be included in a publication the society sends to more than 1,600 media outlets.
The festival, in its 26th year, will be held April 11-13. It will include an arts and crafts show, a hot air balloon rally and a competition in which dogs perform water tricks. New this year will be the addition of a headliner band, the Swingin Medallions, at the hot air balloon rally. The rally will be held at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.
Other events include the Miss Dogwood Pageant, an all-breed dog show, an art show, a kickoff party, a 5K and 1-mile fun run, a flapjack fundraiser, a fishing tournament, a historical drama at Evergreen Cemetery, an event for dogs at Rozar Park, a fishing derby for children, artisan demonstrations and a ventriloquist.
The activities offered in Perry during the Dogwood Festival are one-of-a-kind experiences for the entire community to enjoy, Marc Martin, Perry chamber board chairman, said in the release.
The festival is estimated to bring 10,000 people to the downtown area and 15,000 to the fairgrounds.
Businesses are encouraged to decorate store fronts for the festival, and there will be a contest for the best decorations.
