Macon woman fights off burglar

A 30-year-old Macon woman fought off an intruder when she was home alone Sunday afternoon.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., after her family went shopping, someone kicked in the back door of her Atwood Drive house off Mercer University Drive, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The woman startled the burglar and they fought before he ran away.

Although she was not hurt, Bibb investigators advise victims not to confront intruders.

Instead, they suggest locking yourself in a room and calling 911.

If that is not possible, stay calm.

“Most suspects do not wish to harm their victims, they are only interested in getting money or property,” the release stated. “Do not argue, fight, or surprise the suspect. Don’t take unnecessary chances with your life.”
