Byron Peach Charter High School pushes onward

FORT VALLEY -- Representatives from the proposed Byron Peach Charter High School announced during the school board meeting they will petition for the school to open for the 2015-16 academic year.

The group initially petitioned in 2013 to create a charter school and open it during the 2014-15 school year. The Peach County school board rejected that proposal in July, and the group took its proposal to the state Board of Education.

Now, the group has taken suggestions from both the state and local school boards and has tweaked its proposal. The group once again is looking to work with the local school board in opening a charter school in Byron, according to a letter from Roy Lewis, chairman of the Byron Peach Charter School Association.
