Macon drops to 11 degrees, single-digit lows in north Georgia

Macon set a new record low Tuesday with 11 degrees breaking the old record of 14 set in 1924.

The National Weather Service reports single-digit low temperatures in several cities in north Georgia.

The lowest temperatures recorded since midnight include: 5 degrees in Cartersville, Gainesville, Marietta and Northeast Atlanta; 6 degrees in Atlanta, Rome and West Atlanta; 7 degrees in Athens and 8 degrees in Peachtree City.

The warm spot in the state was Valdosta, which reported an overnight low of 22 degrees.

Temperatures are not expected to get above freezing Tuesday in most of the state.
