An 81-year-old woman died in a house fire early Sunday morning in Dodge County.

Annie Mae Hodges was found dead inside the home at 146 Faircloth Road in Eastman, according to a news release from Insurance and Safety Fire Commissioner Ralph Hudgens’ office.

Flames destroyed the one-story house, and the cause of the blaze is under investigation.

Firefighters were alerted at about 7 a.m. Sunday.

Fatal fires were also reported Saturday in Brantley and Decatur counties.

Everyone is urged to do a safety check of heating systems and space heaters as frigid air will grip Georgia through Wednesday.

In 2013, 125 people died in Georgia fires, the news release stated.
