A man driving a stolen car crashed into a house Wednesday night on Pio Nono Avenue.

The driver took a 2009 Dodge Charger from the King’s Foodmart at 2765 Houston Road after the owner left the car running during a trip inside the store about 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to a news release from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.

The Charger zoomed past a deputy on Pio Nono Avenue before the thief lost control of the car after crossing Mercer University Drive, left the road and hit a house at the corner of Vining Circle.

The engine caught fire and the auto theft suspect ran away.

No one was inside the house during the crash and no one was hurt, the release stated.

Bibb deputies urge drivers to secure their vehicles even if they are only leaving them for a short time.

Anyone with information about the car thief is urged to call Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at 977-68-CRIME.
