Russell Henley celebrates after winning the Sony Open golf tournament Jan. 13 in Honolulu.

Macon native Russell Henley didn't have to wait long to get his first PGA Tour win.

In fact, it came in his first official event as a member of the tour last year at the Sony Open. He went on to have a solid rookie season, and that victory last January in Hawaii landed him a spot in this week's Hyundai Tournament of Champions.

Henley will play with Ryan Moore at 4:20 p.m. on Friday in the first round.

Henley, a former Stratford and Georgia standout, finished the 2013 season with three top-10 finishes and five finishes in the top 25. He made 17 cuts in the 24 events he played and won more than $2 million in prize money.

Henley played three of this season's fall events and made the cut in two of them.

The tournament features a 30-man field and is open to players who won a tournament last year. Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson aren't playing, but the field does include Masters champion Adam Scott, along with Matt Kuchar, Dustin Johnson, Zach Johnson, Jordan Spieth and Webb Simpson.

Harris English, Henley's teammate at Georgia, and former Augusta State standout Patrick Reed are also in the field.
