Macon-Bibb firefighters and the Department of Natural Resources brought four boaters on the Ocmulgee River to safety Monday night.

Emergency dispatchers say the call came in that a boat was sinking at about 6:20 p.m.

Rescuers maintained phone contact with the boating party that was stranded on a sandbar with the water rapidly rising near Bondsview Road in Bibb County.

The boaters, believed to be from Twiggs County, were rescued safely at about 10:30 p.m., said Lt. Sean DeFoe, public information officer for the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office.
