Family: Wife, Robby Speight; sons Alex, 25, and Joseph, 30; granddaughter, Isabella, 4.

Education: Fullington Academy in Pinehurst, 1975; Georgia Southern College, bachelor’s in business administration, 1979; Walter F. George School of Law, Mercer University, 1982.

Personal interests: Speight enjoys playing golf. He’s had four hole-in-one shots. He also likes to read and spend time with his wife, who was his high school sweetheart. “We’ve grown up together,” he said.

Favorite movie: He loves watching movies and his favorite is “The Godfather.” He also likes watching historical films.

Last book you read: “Killing Kennedy” by Bill O’Reilly

What do you like to cook: “I do like to grill,” he said. “I have a smoker, and I’ll cook ribs, wings, turkey or brisket.”

Most unusual thing you’ve done: From his early 20s until his mid-30s, Speight played on slow-pitch softball leagues with teams that travelled on weekends. He played as an outfielder and later as a pitcher.

Pets: “My wife has Buster, a yorkie.”

What is the object or appliance you use most in your house: “It would be my iPad or the computer. I watch a lot of TV on the iPad.”
