I-16 exit reopens after chicken truck fire

Interstate 16 travelers headed east will once again be able to exit on Ga. 301. after a vehicle fire.

An 18-wheeler hauling 40,000 pounds of frozen chickens caught fire at about 11 p.m. Tuesday at the off-ramp to Statesboro and Georgia Southern University, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

The driver was able to drive the tractor away from the flaming trailer at exit 116 in Bulloch County.

The Georgia Department of Transportation and the Georgia State Patrol were on the scene overnight until the scene could be cleared.

The ramp reopened just before 7 a.m. Wednesday.
