Perry council approves land purchase

PERRY -- The city of Perry plans to purchase a piece of property that has been an eyesore for years and turn it into a beautified green space.

City Council voted Tuesday to make an offer of $89,000 for more than half an acre of land at the intersection of Houston Lake Road and Main Street. Council has been eyeing the property for years, and the owner now is ready to sell the land, Mayor Jimmy Faircloth said.

“We intend to clean it up,” Faircloth said after the special-called meeting.

The city will use the green space as an entryway to the city, and it could one day become a passive park, he said.
