Weekend watch, ACC

dshirley@macon.comDecember 13, 2013

Some story lines to what to watch this weekend (and Monday since it has been a slow week) in the ACC.

1. Hoosier State showdown: Notre Dame is in its first season in the ACC and still has some time to prepare for its conference opener. But one of the Irish's top games each year is their game with Indiana. The Irish (6-2) and Hoosiers face off at 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.

2. Getting defensive: Clemson (7-2) has held seven of its first nine opponents to below 40 percent shooting from the floor. The Tigers lead the nation in field goal percentage defense (35.0) while ranking third in scoring defense (53.6 points per game) and seventh in 3-point field goal percentage defense (24.8).

3. Leading the way: Virginia Tech jumped on top of the ACC standings in the first conference game with a win over Miami last weekend. Maryland joined the Hokies at 1-0 in the standings with a win Thursday night over Boston College. The Terps are playing their final season as members of the conference.

4. Back on Monday: Georgia Tech (7-3) has been off since beating East Tennessee State on Dec. 7. The Yellow Jackets return to the court Monday when they host Kennesaw State.
