Bibb school board to start school closure discussions

The Bibb County school board is slated to begin a discussion of school closures by touring a former school.

The school board’s called meeting begins at 4:30 p.m. Monday at the Promise Center, 1780 Anthony Road, with a tour of the center in the former Ballard-Hudson Middle School. The school board is leasing space in the building for a decade.

The biggest item on the agenda is likely to be administrators’ presentations on a proposed five-year facility plan, which could call for new schools, school consolidations and closures, and a push for a new special purpose local option sales tax for education once the current one expires. The board is expected to sign off on a plan in the next few months.

Other agenda items include a superintendent search as well as contracts for natural gas fueling stations and video surveillance equipment.
