Taste of Perry an annual palate pleaser

The second annual Taste of Perry has grown. The Thursday event is close to selling out the additional tables in the Georgia Building at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter.

The Perry Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the holiday event as a fundraiser. In addition to food from 12 restaurants, there will be a silent auction and a live auction.

“This is Perry’s signature holiday event,” said chamber President and CEO Stacy Campbell.

The night’s events will give people an opportunity to dress in their best as cocktail attire is suggested. Local merchandise will be on hand for the silent auction while the live auction will feature trips to Wyoming, St. Simons Island, Tybee Island, the SEC Championship game and Panama City Beach, Fla.

Last year the event raised about $10,000, Campbell said.

Participating restaurants put together signature dishes to showcase at the event.

“Come to eat and make sure you come hungry,” said Campbell.

Some of the items from the previous year were a meat tray from Longhorn’s Steakhouse, appetizers and desserts. New Perry Hotel had a full meal at their table.

The Perfect Pear is scheduled to make its special sangria, according to Campbell.

“We know we put a good event together,” she said. “There’s really not an event like it.”
