Prep sports notebook: Demons still standing, but others fall in playoffs

November 27, 2013

The Warner Robins Demons are the last local GHSA team standing in the playoffs after a 45-28 victory over the Richmond Hill Wildcats on Friday at McConnell-Talbert Stadium.

Sophomore Marquez Smith was a standout for the second straight week as he scored three times in the ball game after crossing the goal line twice against Whitewater in the opening round.

The Demons lost a coin toss to determine home field for the quarterfinals and will have to go on the road to Marietta on Friday to face the undefeated Kell Longhorns.

A banged up Northside Eagles team saw its season come to an end in Waycross for the second consecutive season with a loss to Ware County to finish with a final record of 10-2.

The Peach County Trojans also fell last week to the unbeaten Washington County Golden Hawks who are on the favorites to win a state championship in Class AAA.

The Trojan season concludes at 8-4.

Outfielder signs with Georgia Southwestern

Outfielder Hunt Smith became the third Houston County Bear to sign a baseball scholarship in the early signing period when he inked with Georgia Southwestern University on Nov. 20.

Smith joins Blake Jackson and Justin Jones as 2014 seniors who will be playing baseball at the college level.

He is the 14th Bear to sign a baseball scholarship in the past five years.
