Powerful, freezing winds are expected to hit Middle Georgia on Tuesday night.

The National Weather Service warns temperatures could drop to the 30s in Middle Georgia while winds may reach 40 mph. The net effect, the agency warned, will be wind chills well below freezing.

The strong winds may continue through 7 p.m. Wednesday. The National Weather Service warns that with wind and recent rains, trees may be toppled. Cars may be difficult to drive in the gusts.

"If you must be outside for long periods of time," the agency warned, "make sure you dress appropriately."

More rain may fall Tuesday night and Wednesday morning. The forecast calls for a high of 44 degrees Wednesday.
