As they have for every Mercer University home football game this season, the Georgia Sports Hall of Fame, Main Street Macon and NewTown Macon once again invite Mercer football fans to tailgate Saturday in Cherry Street Plaza.

The fun begins at noon, and from 1-3 p.m. the Grapevine band will be performing crowd favorites such as “Mustang Sally,” “Boogie Shoes” and “Soul Man.”

“They are all local guys from the Middle Georgia area, and the music they play is fun, songs everyone knows. They are a fun party band and really get the crowd involved,” said Kris Hattaway, NewTown Macon’s director of place.

Guests are welcome to set up tents and grills and bring coolers, chairs and all of their typical tailgating gear. There is ample parking downtown, and a shuttle will take fans to the game starting at 3 p.m. and bring them back afterward for only $2 round trip.

“The music will be fun, the weather will be great, and the football team is winning,” Hattaway said. “There aren’t many reasons to stay at home.”
