The Mistletoe Market returns to Perry this weekend.

With more than 100 vendors and numerous activities and entertainment, chairwoman Lisa Hays expects this year’s event to be bigger than ever.

“We’ve been very blessed to have the support of the community,” she said.

The three-day event will take place in the Miller-Murphy-Howard building at the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

A special visitor will arrive on the last day to kick off the holiday season.

Santa Claus will be at the market 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Photo opportunities will be available for a fee.

Along with the jolly man in red, there also will be a painting class for children, as well as a build-your-own-ornament class for all ages.

Delta Kappa Gamma, a teacher’s group, will read to children so that parents can shop. Donations will be accepted to promote literacy in Houston County.

The market itself will feature clothing stores, crafts and more.

More than 150 vendors are on a waiting list, but the club wants to keep the show small.

“I certainly didn’t expect this growth” when the market started, Hays said.

Special guests include artist Mark Ballard; Myron Mixon, star of TLC’s TV show “BBQ Pitmasters”; and local gardener and designer James Farmer.

Entertainment will feature contestants from Perry Idol, Kids America and the Bonaire Middle School jazz band.

Last year, the Balvaunuca Club, which hosts the market, donated $45,000 to various charities in the area. Hays said there are so many people in need the club likes to spread the wealth around.

Last year, 8,000 people went to the market.

She hopes the event breaks the 10,000 visitor mark this year.

“It is almost like this is the kickoff event of the season,” said Hays.
