A 36-year-old west Bibb County man is charged with first degree vehicular homicide in the hit-and-run death of a cyclist earlier this month.

Michael Shaun Bryant, of Sandy Point Road in Lizella, was arrested Wednesday night, according to a news release from the Crawford County Sheriff’s Office.

Ricky Dennis Bacchus, also a 36-year-old Lizella man, was hit while riding his bicycle on Sandy Point Road near Creekview Drive at about 7:20 a.m. Nov. 12.

Bacchus died two days later at The Medical Center of Central Georgia.

The sheriff’s office sought tips on the fatal accident and announced a person of interest came forward hours after the accident.

Bryant also was charged with hit and run, failure to report an accident, following too closely and not providing a safe distance when overtaking and passing a bicycle proceeding in the same direction, the release stated.

Magistrate Judge Richard Spencer denied Bryant’s bond Thursday afternoon.
