Westside has pre-k opening

Westside Elementary School has one spot for a pre-kindergarten student. The position will be filled out of zone on a first-come, first-served basis for a student not already enrolled in a Bright from the Start pre-k program. Students must be 4 years old on or before Sept. 1.

Registration is at the central registration office, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. For more information, contact Ron Wilson at 478-988-6330, ext. 10330.

HR department wins award

The Houston County school system’s human resources department received a gold award in recruitment processes and materials from the Georgia Association of School Personnel Administrators.

FMMS wins GMEA Exemplary Performance Award

The Feagin Mill Middle School band program, directed by Lloyd McDonald, was selected by the Exemplary Performance Award committee as one of three Georgia middle school bands to receive this annual award. The award, created and administered by the Georgia Music Educators Association, is now in its sixth year.

The purpose of the award is to recognize outstanding Georgia band, chorus and orchestra programs whose students excel in all aspects of band performance, both individually and as part of a group.

Peach selects Teachers of Year

Peach County’s 2013-14 teachers of the year were announced last week. They are Brandi Dent, Byron Middle School; Dietrich Everett, Fort Valley Middle School; Martha Elliott-Green, Peach County High School; Nicole Kimbrough, Byron Elementary School; Carol Olajide, Hunt Elementary School; and Terri Moore, Kay Road Elementary School.
