Managers of Riverwalk Apartments on Riverside Drive reported about $1,000 worth of damage to two vacant apartments as a result of arson and vandalism. A porch on one of the apartments was set ablaze between 11 p.m. Sunday and 9 a.m. Monday, according to a Bibb County sheriffs report.
The assistant manager told officers she discovered a T-shirt and an accelerant on the burned porch of one of the vacant apartments. The fire burned out by Monday morning after charring the wood railing and vinyl siding. People living in the building told officers they did not see, hear or smell anything.
Another vacant apartment in a different building also was vandalized. A window was broken, and there were two large holes in the wall of a bedroom, according to the report. Cigar butts and wrappers were found in a storage room on the back porch of the apartment. Managers told officers they are not sure when the unit was damaged, but they suspect some of the juveniles in the complex were responsible.
