Bibb County grand jurors indicted eight people Tuesday in the July 5 fatal shooting outside Macons Zodiac Lounge that left a teenager dead and a man shot eight times.
Authorities have alleged John Michael Hollingshed Jr. shot Deion Davis, 21, and Andre Maurice Bonner fatally shot 17-year-old Jamonni Bland outside the club, located at the RiverView Event Center near Walnut Street and Broadway.
Miranda Pettiway, 28, allegedly drove Hollingshed, 28, and Bonner, 31, away from the club.
Pettiway is charged with one count of malice murder and one count of felony murder. Bonner and Hollingshed each are charged with malice murder, two counts of felony murder, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and multiple counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act, according to the indictment filed Tuesday in Bibb County Superior Court.
Authorities have previously alleged all eight people indicted are members of the Mafia street gang, but Tuesdays indictment doesnt implicate Pettiway in gang activity.
Bonner and Hollingshed, along with 27-year-old Johnifer Denard Barnwell, 28-year-old Arthur Thomas Freeman III, 38-year-old Percy Welch Jr., 30-year-old Jimmy Lee Scott III and 31-year-old Kiyo Latrice Johnson allegedly participated in a group beating of Davis before the shooting. Tuesdays indictment charges each with multiple counts of violation of the Street Gang Terrorism and Prevention Act stemming from the beating.
Scott is alleged to have used a pool stick during the beating while Johnson allegedly used a bottle. Both are charged with one count of aggravated assault, according to the indictment.
Bonner additionally is accused of striking a Bibb County deputy in the chest with his hand on Aug. 26, more than a month after his arrest, according to the indictment.
Barnwell also is accused of threatening to murder a Bibb deputy on Sept. 17, nearly two months after his arrest, according to the indictment.
Seven of the eight people named in the indictment remain in the county jail. Pettiway was released on $82,700 bond Oct. 21, according to jail records.
The indictment comes after Bibb County prosecutors launched a new initiative last month aimed at dismantling gangs.
This indictment is just one of our first steps, Cooke said Tuesday. Were just getting started.
