The man who died on Saturday during the first day of deer season for firearms was identified by the Jones County Sheriff’s Office as 47-year-old Francisco Hernandez, of Joliet, Ill.

The shooting death occurred at about 12:30 p.m. on Union Hill Church Road near the Putnam County Line.

A man matching the victim’s name and age owns a landscaping company in Joliet, but calls to the company’s listed telephone number were not returned.

Sheriff’s Capt. Earl Humphries said the investigation is ongoing, and the sheriff’s office did not release additional information as of Monday evening. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources also is investigating.
