What we learned
Houston County has life: The Bears were in a perilous position following their one-point loss to Lakeside-Evans on the road. Both teams were fighting for one of the playoff spots in GHSA Region 2-AAAAA. Houston County bounced back in a huge way, beating No. 7 Warner Robins for just the third time in school history. If they can beat the Knights and Greenbrier on Nov. 9 and Northside beats Warner Robins, then the Bears will play Jones County on Halloween with a home playoff game on the line.
Perry at Westside, Thursday: In a muddled Region 2-AAAA playoff picture, both the Panthers and Seminoles are 2-2 in region play. So this game has huge playoff implications with three weeks left in the regular season.
Stratford at Tattnall Square, Friday: Stratford and Tattnall may be the two best teams in GISA Class AAA -- although Westfield would have a claim to that title -- and this meeting could both decide a region title and identify the leading contender for the GISA championship.
Lamar County at Bleckley County, Friday: This is a big one for Bleckley County, giving the Royals an opportunity for the Region 4-AA championship with a win. No. 2 Lamar County would also likely lock up a region title with a win.
Lakeside-Evans at Jones County, Friday: Jones County has two crucial games during the next two weeks. The Greyhounds playoff hopes will be decided against Lakeside in Gray and at Houston County on Halloween night.
Houston County at Evans, Friday: The Bears are coming off their biggest win in years -- maybe since a win over M.L. King in the second round of the playoffs in 2006 -- but it wont matter if they cant take care of the Knights.
Trinity Christian-Sharpsburg at Mount de Sales, Friday: The Cavaliers have rebounded from an 0-5 start with wins of 38 and 31 points, respectively, to start region play. A win over Trinity would set up a huge final two weeks for the Cavaliers against Stratford and Tattnall.
Mary Persons at Baldwin, Friday: This is a dangerous game for Mary Persons. The Bulldogs are a win away from setting up a de-facto region title game with Veterans, but theyll have to win in Milledgeville against an enigmatic Braves team. When they are clicking, the Braves are dangerous and their backs are against the wall.
FPD at Wilkinson County, Friday: Just like last week, this is a must win for the Vikings to stay in playoff contention.
Howard at Rutland, Friday: The Hurricanes close the season with Howard, Perry and Westside. Theyll need to win all three to have a shot at the playoffs.
West Laurens at Veterans, Friday: Veterans is in a similar trap-game position as Mary Persons. The Warhawks cant look ahead to the following week with the Raiders coming to town.
Pacelli at Dooly County, Friday: The Bobcats are coming off a tough three-point loss to undefeated Marion County, but they cant sulk for long. A much-improved Pacelli squad is 6-1 on the season.
