Application for sports bar approved by Macon-Bibb zoning board

An application for a sports bar on Pio Nono Avenue was approved Monday by the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.

The conditional-use permit will allow a sports bar with live entertainment at a strip shopping center at 3272-3280 Pio Nono Ave. at the intersection with Newberg Avenue.

The applicant, Jeffrey Butts, said he had heard “all the complaints” about the prior tenant, Action Billiards, which included problems with loud noise and trash.

Butts’ attorney, Crystal Boudreaux of Senoia, said Butts has taken a number of steps to be a good neighbor to surrounding businesses and residents.

Butts has painted the exterior of the building, added interior soundproofing, will provide security and have someone keep the parking lot clean, Boudreaux said.

“He’s adding lighting on the outside to improve the appearance,” she said. “He’s very aware of what’s been said (about the place) in the past.”

Commissioner Al Tillman thanked Butts for taking care of some of the “complaints and concerns we have had in the past,” he said.

Butts said he plans to host pool or billiards competitions and have comedians, live music or a disc jockey.

The club is expected to be open 9 p.m.-2 a.m., he said.
