Macon-Bibb zoning board to consider Pio Nono sports bar application

lmorris@macon.comOctober 12, 2013

An application for a sports bar on Pio Nono Avenue is expected to be considered Monday by the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission.

The conditional-use permit would allow a sports bar with live entertainment at a strip shopping center at 3272-3280 Pio Nono Ave., at the intersection with Newberg Avenue. The applicant is Jeffrey Butts with Tap Out Inc.

Approval was granted in 2009 to a different owner for the same property, which allowed a sports bar with pool tables. In 2011, approval was granted to add live entertainment and food service at the bar.

The current application includes plans by the owner to host pool or billiards events and live comedy, according to the commission’s staff report.

Even though the new proposal is similar to previous approvals for the site, the staff report reflects concerns about previous complaints from adjacent residents regarding loud music from the bar.

North, east and southeast of the site is zoned as residential districts, the report states. The 2035 Future Land Use Map recommends community commercial uses for the property.

The meeting begins at 1:30 p.m. in the 10th floor conference room, Willie C. Hill City Hall Annex, 682 Cherry St.
