Stratford, Tattnall advance to GISA softball Final Four

Stratford advanced to the GISA Class AAA Final Four with a 4-2 series-clinching win over Pinewood Christian on Thursday.

Mary Wilson Avant pitched a complete game for the Eaglettes, allowing no earned runs and striking out six.

Avant added a doubled in the victory. Stratford scored all four runs in the top of the fifth inning.

The Eaglettes beat the Patriots 4-1 in Game 1. Avant struck out seven in a complete game effort in Game 1. Morgan Maier and Avery Layton each had two hits, and Avant knocked in two runs.

Kirsten Albright allowed one run in a complete-game effort in Tattnall Square’s 5-1 series-clinching win over Bulloch Academy. Jade Moncrief went 2-for-3 in the win, while Liz Wainwright went 2-for-4 and Brianna Beasley knocked in two runs.

The Trojans beat Bulloch Academy 10-2 earlier in Game 1. Albright went 4-for-4 with three RBI, while Kendall Hardy, Beasley, Jordan Allen and Wainwright all had two hits. Caroline Gilbert pitched all six innings, allowed no earned runs.

Westfield beat Brentwood to also move to the Final Four, which will be held at Southern Pines in Dublin on Saturday.
