Members of the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested a man Monday wanted in connection with a drug raid on Melton Avenue in east Macon.
Using a tip from Macon Regional CrimeStoppers, authorities arrested Michael Pitts Jr., 21, after a short foot chase and recovered more than $10,000 as part of an ongoing investigation, according to a Bibb County Sheriffs Office news release.
Sheriffs drug investigators tried to serve a search warrant at Pitts home on Melton Avenue on Aug. 1, but Pitts ran away. Four other Macon men who remained at the house -- 23-year-old Bernard Dent Jr., 48-year-old Terry Eugene Burkett Sr., 19-year-old Amond Norwood and 19-year-old Kendarrious Rayshun Cone -- were arrested on drug and gun charges, according to the release.
Investigators seized several pounds of marijuana, six handguns, and drug and gang paraphernalia. Two of the guns later were identified as being stolen.
Pitts is charged with possession of marijuana with the intent to distribute, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, theft by receiving stolen property, and two counts of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. He was being held at the Bibb County jail with an $18,200 bond.
Dent and Norwood were released on bond in September. Burkett remains in the county jail with a State Court probation violation hold and an $11,200 bond. Cone, who also posted bond in September, was transferred to the Jones County jail on unrelated charges of child cruelty and battery, according to the release.
