What we learned
Houston County rolling so far: The Bears have equaled their win total from a year ago -- theyve won more than three games in a season just once since 2006. The 52 points they scored in Fridays win was the second highest total in program history and their most points in a game in 21 years.
Johnson County vaults to the top: Johnson County announced itself as a contender for the Class A public school championship after a road win at No. 2 Savannah Christian. It was the Trojans biggest win since they beat ECI in 2010.
Going for the win is risky business: Both FPD and Stratford played for wins on the road by going for two-point conversions. FPD came up short at Lincoln County, while the Eagles failed on their two-point try with no time left on the clock against Westfield.
Westside at Mary Persons, Friday: The Bulldogs face their toughest test so far in the form of the Seminoles, who are looking to move up in the Region 2-AAAA standings.
Lamar County at Northeast, Friday: Its a matchup of undefeated teams. Both teams were undefeated heading into this game a year ago, and the Trojans rolled.
Warner Robins at Jones County, Friday: Jones County is coming off its most complete performance thus far, but the Demons present a giant leap in talent from the Greenbrier team the Greyhounds beat on Friday.
Houston County at Northside, Friday: The Bears are off to their best start in three years, but the Eagles are the best team theyve played so far. Northside has never lost to Houston County, going 15-0 all-time in the series. Only twice has the game been decided by fewer than 10 points.
Lovett at Washington County, Friday: The Golden Hawks play their toughest opponent of the season in the Class AAs top-ranked Lions, who upset Class AAA St. Pius X two weeks ago.
Rutland at Baldwin, Friday: The Braves are reeling after a loss to previously winless Perry, and the Hurricanes are seeking some redemption after a loss to Veterans on Thursday.
Dooly County at Hawkinsville, Friday: The Red Devils have won three straight for the first time since 2010, but theyll have to contend with last years Class A public school runner-up. The Bobcats are coming off a shutout win over Brookstone.
