PERRY -- An affordable housing apartment complex in the city will be renovated with financing from the Housing Authority of Cordele, Perry City Council approved Tuesday.
The council voted unanimously to allow Cordele Heritage Oaks LP, a nonprofit corporation whose goal is to improve affordable housing complexes throughout the state, to use funds from the Cordele Housing Authority to renovate Pinebrook Apartments.
Cordele Heritage Oaks plans to use financing from the Housing Authority of Cordele to renovate 19 locations. Pinebrook, a 52-unit complex at 715 Mason Terrace Road, is the only Perry project listed.
State law requires that a housing authority cannot infringe on another area without the express approval of the housing authority and city. The Perry Housing Authority approved the project prior to Tuesdays council approval.
Penrose Wolf, of the Perry Housing Authority, said affordable housing in the city is typically at capacity.
