Prep sports notebook: Houston County softball rebounds from tough start

Sun News correspondentSeptember 11, 2013

After suffering a tough start to the 2013 season, the Houston County Bears have been playing some excellent softball in recent weeks.

The Bears are 7-2 in their last nine ballgames, including wins over Thomas County Central, Northside-Columbus, East Coweta, West Laurens, Perry and Locust Grove.

Their hunt for another playoff berth begins this week when Region 2B-AAAAA play begins with a road game at Jones County and a home contest against Warner Robins.

The Bears advanced to the second round of the state playoffs in 2012 before falling in three games to the Union Grove Wolverines.

Musselwhite wins trophy

Warner Robins golfer Tyler Musselwhite took home the trophy at the Central Chapter Championship of the Georgia PGA held last week at Green Island Country Club in Columbus.

Musselwhite opened the tournament with a two-under round of 69.

He would go on to card a final round of 70, to post a two-day total of 139, on his way to claiming the one shot victory.

Musselwhite is an assistant golf professional at Healy Point Country Club in Macon.
