Eddie Lee Carswell

A Dublin man is charged with second degree vehicular homicide in a fatal crash in Laurens County last month.

Eddie Lee Carswell, 37, of Evergreen Road, is also charged with following too closely, said Cpl. Richard Peck, head of the region’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team for the Georgia State Patrol.

“We don’t have any probable cause to believe he was impaired,” Peck said, or first degree charges might have been applied.

SCRT investigators will determine how fast Carswell was traveling in his Freightliner truck when he rear-ended a Hyundai Sonata on Ga. 29 on Aug. 20.

The driver of the car, 66-year-old Joyce Tanner Graham, of East Dublin, was killed after she slowed down when another vehicle was turning in front of her, GSP spokesman Gordy Wright stated in an email.

A third vehicle was damaged by debris, Peck said.
