Red Cross, Caring Solutions seek support

September 4, 2013

I have two important items for you this month.

First, the Central Georgia Chapter of the American Red Cross is in dire need of bottled water. The chapter has supported so many canteens and disasters this year that its supply has been severely depleted. If you can assist by providing bottled water, especially in pint bottles, it would be greatly appreciated. Donations can be made by taking them to the Macon office, 195 Holt Ave., Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. The number is 478-743-8671. Donations also may be dropped off at the Warner Robins office at 346 Corder Road on Tuesday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The phone number is 478-923-6332. If needed at either location, arrangements can be made for additional drop-off times and dates.

The chapter also is hosting a “Veterans Stand Down” event 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday at the VFW post 9709, 711 Key St. in Macon. This event is sponsored by the Corporation for National and Community Service, Volunteer Macon, the Community Blueprint Network and Veterans Affairs.

There will be free food and clothing, health care services, housing resources, counseling and legal services, employment opportunities, haircuts and much more. Veterans need to bring DD Form 214 or VA cards as proof of veteran status. For more information, contact Eric Bryson at 478-737-4033.

The second important matter I have for you is that there will be Day of Hope 2013 to benefit Caring Solutions Pregnancy Resource Center. The event will be held Sept. 21 at Hephzibah Children’s Home, 6601 Zebulon Road in Macon with registration beginning at 8 a.m. There will be a 1 mile children’s fun run, a 5K run and a separate 2 mile walk.

From 7-8 p.m., there will be a cookout with inflatables for children and adults, face painting, dunking booth and a live band.

This extremely important event is sponsored by Cheddar’s restaurant, Covenant Care Services, Speir & Associates, Trinity Built Homes, Raffield Tire-Master, State Bank and Pure Barre. Caring Solutions thanks all their sponsors and encourages you to visit their offices.

If you would like to participate, form a team or support the wonderful work of Caring Solutions, all the particulars can be found at www.friendsofcaringsolutions.com.
