Woman hit with hammer during home invasion

Staff reportAugust 27, 2013

A Macon woman with a hammer tried to defend her home against an intruder Monday evening before he took the tool and used it on her.

The victim, who lives in the 600 block of Edgewood Avenue, told Macon police she heard several loud knocks at her back door at about 6 p.m., according to a police report.

When she went to the door, she noticed a man was kicking it in. The intruder made his way into the house and the victim grabbed a board and struck him in the face with it. As the two fought, the victim then picked up a hammer from atop a cabinet and struck the intruder in the head, causing him to bleed, the report stated.

The victim fell during the fight and the intruder grabbed the hammer from her and hit her on top of her head, causing a knot.

The victim then stopped fighting and told the man, “Please don’t hit me anymore. Take whatever you want,” the report stated.

The man took a flat-screen TV, a DVD player, a watch, cash, a ruby and diamond rings, and the hammer.
