U.S. snowboarders Kelly Clark and Jamie Anderson claimed gold medals in womens halfpipe and slopestyle at the FIS World Cup in Cardrona, New Zealand. In freestyle skiing, Nick Goepper took gold in mens slopestyle.
Sam Querrey advanced to the semifinals, but lost to Austrias Jurgen Melzer, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, at the Winston-Salem Open. After advancing to the quarterfinals of the New Haven Open, Sloane Stephens lost to Caroline Wozniacki of Denmark, 7-6 (8/6), 6-2.
Kelly Schumacher and Summer Ross advanced to the first round of playoffs at the FIVB Moscow Grand Slam in Russia.
