Southwest elevates Worthy to head basketball coach

jheeter@macon.comAugust 22, 2013

Southwest turned to a familiar face earlier this year when it hired to alum Joe Dupree to lead the football program.

The Patriots did the same thing Thursday, naming Robert Worthy the head basketball coach. Worthy, who played for legendary Southwest coach Don Richardson, was already at the school as a physical education teacher. The administration will elevate him to the top position to replace Hubert Hogan, who is still at the school as a football coach.

Worthy recently coached at Mary Persons, leading the Bulldogs to the playoffs in 2005, 2006 and 2008.
