A 26-year-old Macon man died Saturday night after he was run over by a car on Log Cabin Drive near Gadson Drive.

Johnny Vasquez, of Houston Road, was pronounced dead at the scene of the 9 p.m. accident, said Bibb County Coroner Leon Jones.

“One of the witnesses tells me he was lying in the street when he was run over,” Jones said. “Some friends say he was walking home from Pershing Avenue.”

After the driver stopped in the road, Macon-Bibb County firefighters had to use air bags to lift the 2005 Honda Civic off Vasquez’s body, Jones said.

The Macon Police Department is investigating that accident that happened near the entrance to Sam’s Club and the Dairy Queen.
