Buckarama returns Friday to the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry. Hosted by the Georgia Wildlife Federation, the three-day hunting, fishing and outdoor event will feature attractions and shows by Chuck Belmore and Jon Justice, hosts of Ironman Bowfishing on the Sportsman Channel; the Georgia Falconry Association; Retriever World; and Southeastern Reptile Rescue.
We go every year, said Joey Seabolt, with the Georgia Falconry Association. Seabolt said the Georgia Wildlife Federation has invited the Georgia Falconry Association for more than 10 years.
Buckarama is a good opportunity for people to find out about the sport (of falconry), said Seabolt, adding that the Georgia Falconry Associations show at Buckarama will educate people about falconry and the birds associated with the sport.
Buckarama began as a deer hunting show in Atlanta almost 30 years ago, said Sam Stowe, with the Georgia Wildlife Federation.
Weve expanded since those days, he said. Now, the event includes fishing and other outdoor activities such as camping. Buckarama is held in two locations: the Atlanta Expo Center in Atlanta and the Georgia National Fairgrounds and Agricenter in Perry.
According to the Georgia Wildlife Federations website, the Perry location was added in 1991.
Attendance at last years Perry Buckarama was about 17,000, Stowe said.
The Georgia Wildlife Federation is a nonprofit organization, and proceeds from Buckarama will support the federations conservation programs, Stowe said.
One such program is Georgia Hunters for the Hungry. We support venison processing and distribute it to food banks, Stowe said about the program.
According to the federations website, more than 100 vendors and exhibitors will be at the Perry Buckarama, including one vendor who will be selling golf carts.
Glen Knighton, with Mikes Golf Carts in Perry, said people can buy golf carts at the event and take them home that day.
Knighton said Mikes Golf Carts has attended Buckarama for several years, and he expects this year to be as successful as previous years.
