Laurens County schools will be closed Friday due to continuing heavy rains.
I think theyre closing them because of the conditions of the roads, Dublin-Laurens County EMA Director Don Bryant said. We are still under a flash flood warning.
The steady downpour caused water to pond on secondary roads in low-lying areas, especially dirt roads, he said Thursday. There hasnt been much of a problem with houses flooding, but some roads are best avoided, Bryant said.
Were still expecting rain through the night; and I know last night we had a lot of ponding on the roadways, and we had a number of accidents, he said.
Bryant urged people to stay off the roads Friday, avoiding nonessential trips.
