A grocery story is headed to Northside Drive, replacing a discount retailer.
Freds is moving out of the shopping center at Northside and Forest Hill Road in the next couple of weeks, and Food Depot is moving in, said district supervisor Jamey Leseueur for Stockbridge-based All American Quality Foods, which does business as Food Depot.
Freds will be out by Sept. 1, Leseueur said.
Food Depot is a discount grocery store, offering a cost plus 10 percent format.
As part of the renovation, Food Depot will expand into adjacent space and take up about 46,000 square feet of the shopping center, he said.
Depending on renovation and the permitting process, I would love to be open in November, he said.
Food Depot expects to hire close to 100 employees, he said. The store will begin accepting applications, which can be found online at www.myfooddepot.com, most likely in late October or early November.
The company has 31 stores and expects to have two more, including Macons, by the end of the year, he said. Other Middle Georgia store locations are in Warner Robins, Fort Valley and Dublin, where it also has a distribution center.
We have been wanting to come to Macon for a lot of years, Leseueur said. We have looked at various locations, and nothing worked out.
