Macon police have obtained an arrest warrant for a suspect in the early Sunday slaying of a Lizella man in Macons Village Green neighborhood.
Quinton Lavere Jones, 38, of Satterfield Drive, is wanted in the fatal shooting of 35-year-old Steven Johnson, according to a police news release.
When police arrived at 5761 Frederica Place, a large crowd of people was crying, screaming and yelling, according to a police report released Monday.
Johnson, who had been at the house early that morning paying his respects following a death in his childs mothers family, had been shot at about 2:15 a.m.
The mother of Johnsons child told police that she had told her boyfriend, Jones, that she wanted to end their relationship. At some point, Jones arrived at the house on Frederica Place, according to the report.
The woman told police she heard Jones and Johnson arguing inside and people in the house telling Jones to leave. She then heard gunshots, according to the report.
Johnson was shot four times -- in the head, torso, thigh and buttocks.
Although an officer noted in the report that Johnson had a weapon, no weapon was found.
Witnesses told police that Jones left in a 2012 white Toyota Camry, according to the report.
Anyone with information about the incident or Jones location is asked to call police at 751-7500 or Macon Regional CrimeStoppers at 877-68-CRIME.
