A Macon man who allegedly fired a gun at police knocking on his door April 6 was indicted Tuesday by Bibb County grand jurors.

Gary Dennis Kelso, 63, is charged with aggravated assault on a peace officer and aggravated assault, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.

Macon police were called to the Broadway Lofts on Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard after a girl went to Kelso's apartment to borrow an item and he answered the door armed with a gun. The child told her father about the incident and the father called police, according to a police news release.

When officers knocked on the door, Kelso fired a shot through the closed door, according to police.

Kelso was arrested and released from jail four days later on $12,300 bond, according to jail records.
