UPDATE: Agriculture burn responsible for Macon smoke

lfabian@macon.comJuly 30, 2013

A controlled agricultural burn is responsible for the smoke rising from near downtown Macon.

Macon-Bibb County fire crews scrambled to find the source of the heavy plume rising from the industrial sector shortly after 10:30 a.m.

Trucks tracked the blaze from sightings reported from Brosnan Yard, the Eisenhower Parkway extension, Ackerman's and Cox Cafe.

Norfolk Southern railroad reported a blaze between a tree line and a creek, but firefighters could not gain access.

The Georgia Forestry Commission was notified of the burn, which appeared to be tapering off after 11 a.m.
