Overnight work crews are expected to close lanes of eastbound Interstate 16 over the Ocmulgee River for the next two weeks.

Interstate 75 traffic headed to the split from both directions also will be affected.

A Georgia Department of Transportation news release states crews plan double lane closures on the eastbound bridge near the Interstate 75 splits and will close the I-75 southbound exit to I-16 while repairs are made on the bridge joints.

Motorists on I-75 southbound will not be able to exit onto I-16 eastbound at the split and will have to travel to the Hardeman Avenue exit and turn around at Forsyth Street and head north to the split.

If weather permits, work is scheduled from 8 p.m. until 5 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and next week from Monday through Aug. 9.

Separately, the Georgia Department of Transportation plans to close one lane per night of Interstate 75 near the Pierce Avenue exit in Macon. A right lane of I-75 northbound will be closed Wednesday night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m. A southbound lane will be closed Thursday night between 9 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Crews are also expected to work on the edges of state highways this week in Bibb, Dooly, Houston, Jones, Peach and Pulaski counties.
