RICHMOND HILL -- The coaches from Warner Robins American Little Leagues All-Star team may not have had a game Wednesday, but they didnt take the day off from baseball.
With practice early in the morning, manager Brad King and coaches Buddy Deal and Randy Jones headed to Richmond Hill Park to see the team they would be facing in the semifinals of the state baseball tournament.
The team is Martinez-Evans Little League, which is 3-1 in pool play. The only loss came from the 4-0 Columbus Northern Little League.
Experienced coaching has led WRALL so far, with both Deal and Jones having coached at the Little League World Series.
But the team from Warner Robins will have its toughest challenge yet in the aggressive Martinez-Evans team, which only had two strikeouts and no errors against Newton County Little League in its 8-5 win to advance to the semifinals.
Theyre going to put the ball in play, King said.
WRALL is expected to pitch Corbet Luna, who has been clocked throwing the ball in the 70 mph range and faster.
His team will have to play its best defense yet this tournament. Martinez-Evans has outscored its opponents 36-18 against Warner Robins 44-4.
King hopes all of the hard work his team has put in will pay off.
Well have a plan, and I believe well come out on top, he said.
Warner Robins will face Martinez-Evans at 1 p.m. on Thursday.
The winner of that game will play in the championship at 10 a.m. Friday against the winner of Thursdays 10 a.m. game featuring Columbus Northern and Cartersville Little League.
